Appearence
Before I talk about corgis, you should know what they look like. Corgis are usually said to be a small dog, but such is not the case. Really, they are medium dogs, but on short legs. They are similar, but not the same, as dachshunds. Corgis have a fox-like snout, and they also have long bodies, and a neck as thick as their head. As for the rest? That depends on the corgi's breed. There are 2 breeds of corgi. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. The most obvious difference between the 2, other than the coat patterns, is the tail. The corgi with the tail is the Cardigan. The corgi with the stump is the Pembroke. The Cardigan has sharper ears, shapewise, while the Pembroke has rounder ears. The Cardigan has more of a stocky body, while the Pembroke, not so much. Speaking of body, the Pembroke has a more rectangular body, while the Cardigan has a more sleek body, because of their tail. The different coat variations for the Pembroke are: Red-Headed Tricolor, Black-Headed Tricolor, Sable & White, Red & White, and Fawn & White. The variations for Cardigans are: Red, Sable, Brindle, Black Brindle, Black with Tan Points, Black with Brindle Points, Blue Merle with Tan Points, and Blue Merle with Brindle Points.
That's alot. let's move on.
Legends, Lore, & More
Legend has it that long ago, in the old place of Wales, fairies were living in harmony with other woodland creatures in the area. It is also said, that even though these fairies could fly, they did not have enough power in their wings to get where they desired. So, they created the corgi to be their valiant steed. The corgis also herded fairy cattle, and leaded fairy coaches. Most corgis have a "fairy saddle" that you can see on their necks.Stats
Despite their seemingly small size, corgis are acually herding dogs. The reason for their short size? Well, they are short because if the cattle tries to kick them, they are so short that the cattle miss them. Corgis are smart, they are ranked the 11th smartest breed.
